Symbol Technologies Inc. – Technically, SBL has begun to recover from the Oct. 2000 lows and appears to be finding support near the $31 – $33 level. While the downward trend line has yet to be broken, based on positive developments in leveraging of their core bar code business into the wireless applications market, we see this stock as an attractive purchase at current prices. We believe that this stock can obtain a 12-18 months price objective.

Sawtek Inc. – We believe that Sawtek is well positioned to be the premier provider of component products for wireless communications devices, and its top 10 customers list reads like a whos who in the wireless communications industry. The company has recently introduced SAW RF filters for CDMA, GSM and TDMA wireless phones and SAW IF filters for GSM wireless phones.

F5 Networks Inc. – F5 has been able to maintain its lead over the switch-based architecture in delivering fast load balancing at level 4, the network level, and by providing essential e-commerce functions like Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) session ID tracking and user authentication. In addition, the Company has also made some high profile agreements with industry leaders like Dell, which will incorporate the F5 controller into their server lines, and a technology swapping agreement with Internet content management company, Akamai Technologies.

Coherent Inc. – Although sales for the Medical business segment declined sequentially from the third fiscal quarter, we noted the especially strong growth in the Lambda Physik segment, and growth in the Electro-Optics is also holding up rather well. During the fiscal year, Lambda Physik sold a record $35.6 million in DUV excimer lasers for lithography and booked orders for a record $49.0 million in DUV excimer lasers for the lithography marketplace. The company as a whole reported a book-to-bill ratio for the year of 1.13:1, generating a backlog of $173.8 million, a new high.

Immunex Corporation – So what’s next for Immunex? While on the surface Immunex appears to be a one-product company, in looking through their new drugs development pipeline, we see some potentially exciting new possibilities. One of their more promising new drugs under development is NUVANCE for the treatment of asthma currently in phase II clinical trials.

BEI Technologies Inc. – The upbeat third quarter results would indicate continued strong market acceptance of the company’s best selling GyroChip sensor product and the stability in their industrial market segment. While the use of the GyroChip is currently limited mostly to luxury automobiles that use computer-assisted stability enhancement systems to maintain control of vehicles in slippery conditions, it is quite likely that the GyroChip will become more of a safety feature, like air bags.

Sandisk Corporation – So far in FY2000, while CompactFlash memory product sales remained strong, the company has also benefited from the strong consumer demand for MP3 portable digital music players and from the rapid growth in wireless communications. The sales of MultiMediaCard memory product, which accounted for just 7% of total sales in 1999 has nearly tripled, and accounted for about one-third of total sales during the second quarter.
