Getting Digg on the Fly

getting digg on your mobile phone
If you’re addicted to Digg like I am, you’re probably wanting to stay on top of Digg news even when you aren’t at your desktop. This was a huge problem for me up until this last month when I purchased a new cell phone with a nice color screen and EVDO capabilities.

In comes Digg Mobile to save the day! There are so many different variants to keep you connected that it may be confusing at first, but try a few of them out and see which ones work for you and your phone. Data usage rates do apply ;) .

Mobits Digg Mobile

This website presents the current top 40 which displays nicely on any capable handset. The problem often reported with this is that the links aren’t transcoded, which means when you click through a headline; you are directed to a non-mobile version of the Digg description page. This reportedly causes issues with some built-in browsers, but seems to work fine on my LG LX550 running Opera Mini.

DiggRiver

DiggRiver is the official mobile version of Digg.com. The frontpage size is under 10kb and loads in almost any mobile browser. This has the same problem as Digg Mobile in that it only mobilizes the front page of Digg. Booo!

DiggPad

DiggPad is a neat idea that allows users to search through content within the last 7 days from Digg. The hotlinks are automatically mobilized via Google Transcoder. You can view up to 40 stories.

You may also be interested in the Google Transcoder that helps mobilize web pages, Skweezer that does the same, and Opera Mini that will definitely enhance your mobile browsing experience.

Thanks for these links. I’m exploring mobile internet on the Nintendo DS Browser at the moment (see my link), and Digg was something that I couldn’t get to work well before. I’ll be interested to see if the login works okay – I had problems with the AJAX interface using the standard site on the DS Browser.

Thanks for that additional link. I’ll give it a go. I was really interested in being able to digg posts as well as read them though, so I can find them again later. I’m not sure any of the mobile sites will support that on the DS.

I was addicted to Digg, but I’m spending way too much time on my site these days to be on Digg as much as I used to be!

Look at all of us interested in browsing the web from our mobile devices. I also enjoy Digg and the ability to enjoy Digg from my mobile device.

So much so that I decided to create my first mobile website. To my surprise I was able to add a Google search box which allows me to generate revenue from searches performed.

The site doesn’t render properly unless viewed from a mobile device.
