18 More Quality Free Typefaces for Print and Web Designers

Written By: Posted On: March 11, 2007 Tags:

Designing on a budget isn’t always the easiest thing to do. One of the most important aspects of web and print design is the typeface you choose in your work.

A typeface makes a tremendous impression and often makes the difference between boring and stunning design. A lot of us aren’t working on an unlimited budget, and while you may want to think about investing in commercial type, here are (!!) free types that I’ve come across and find very useful.

Fonce Sans

Fontin

The Fontin is designed to be used at small sizes. The color is darkish, the spacing loose and the x-height tall.

Fontin Sans

The Sans companion to Fontin.

Delicious

One of my favorites. Consistency in spacing, not in character shape.

Tallys

Tallys is a font that is one degree slanted and has large caps, a small x-height and long ascenders. Like Fontin, it comes with hybrid numbers and a complete character set.

Fertigo

The more you get to know it, the more you will (probably) appreciate it.

Blue Highway

This comes in bold, condensed, regular type.

Agendia

Agendia has a feel of swooping motion in it’s character set. An interesting font.

TF Owahle

Not an entire font family but a good face.

Lacuna

Regular, Italic.

Hydrophilia

A couple of different styles here.

New Media

Kirkita

Nice grunge font if you’re into the whole grunge thing.

District Thin

Thin is in.

Kontrapunkt

Awarded the Danish Design Prize for best typeface.

Vera Sans Mono

Share

A corporate font for TYPO3.

BD Sirca

A unique font with sleek curves.

Hi Scot, thanks for mentioning my fonts. I also noticed that ‘meridiancrest’ was set in Fontin… :-)

    Jos,

You are a king. I noticed you’ve just released Diavlo, I’m going to check it out!

Thanks for all the hard work and effort you’ve put in to your fonts, it’s truly appreciated.

Scot, thanks very much, altough ‘king’ is a little bit to much honour for me :-)
I’ve just updated Diavlo with two more weights… Italics (obliques) will follow.

Some of these are great thanks, love the BD Sirca, not quite sure what it could be used for but very modern. I can never seem to find many modern serifs either, a few good ones here. Anyone know of any other modern serif fonts commercial or free?
